Sport HistoryCricket Read moreCricket CloseCricket at Eltham College has been a strength of the school for many years and the sport continues to flourish with the current batch of youngsters. The school runs eight sides which play regularly at both the weekend and during the week. Over 100 boys train twice a week and are selected to represent the 1st XI, 2nd XI, 3rd XI, U15, U14, U13 or U12 side during their time at the school.Eltham College has a very good record of success in all age groups with an impressive fixture list, including Felsted, Bancroft's, Brentwood, Sevenoaks, King's Canterbury, Reigate, Cranbrook and the MCC. The school also plays host to overseas team. The future of Eltham Cricket is bright with the U13s and U12's winning their Kent Cups in 2009 and the U15s in 2010; the College can expect some strong years in the near future. The 1st XI had a successful tour of Australia in December 2009 and hopes to tour Sri Lanka at Easter in 2012. Hockey Read moreHockey CloseHockey at Eltham College has now become well established since being first introduced in 1998, and the school competes with top teams across the country. We run indoor hockey sides at all ages in the Autumn term and have reached the semi-final stage of the South Indoor Finals at all age groups. In the Spring term Eltham College regularly fields 11 outdoor sides who compete against the top hockey schools. The school enters all age groups into the Kent County cup and regularly competes on county finals day. In 2009 the U16s won both the Kent cup, the South East regionals and reached the National Semi-Finals. The school actively encourages representing the county and in recent years has produced county players across the age groups. Recent players have also gone on to regional representation with numerous pupils having represented South England teams.Rugby Union Read moreRugby Union CloseEltham College has a long and successful tradition of playing rugby and continues today to perform at the highest level. Eltham College regularly puts out eleven teams on a Saturday in the Autumn Term and enters 'Sevens' competitions at all age groups in the Spring Term. Over sixty boys regularly train twice a week and play for either the 1st XV, 2nd XV or 3rd XV at the senior level, while year groups comprising 75 boys feed into (a) and (b) XVs at Under 15, 14, 13 and 12.Eltham College boasts a very good record of success against both local (St Olave's, Colfe's and Judd) and more distant schools (Bishop Stortford, Reigate and Worth) and has enjoyed several international tours in recent years. Eltham's senior rugby squad have visited Chile and Argentina, Namibia and South Africa, Australia and California, and the most recent trip was in 2010 to Seattle and Vancouver. Tours closer to home for the younger teams have included three day trips to Dublin and the North East of England. Sides in recent years have not only won the Kent Cup but have also enjoyed good runs in the Daily Mail Cup and in the Schools National Sevens Tournaments at Rosslyn Park. Former pupils (Old Elthamians) have been recognised at international level, with the most recent being Jamie Harris who has played for the Gwent Dragons and the full Welsh Sevens team. |
